Episode 64: Soliheen Remix Month - Lalah Hathaway

So it is with great pleasure (and speed typing before post-run showering) that I kick start this month of January, the official Soliheen Remix Month, with the first of a short collection of ear candy. This is my offering to a genre that I have had little to do with but know that applying some reggae principles is all that stands between whackness and greatness!

All that I ask of you... expect of  you even, is your honesty, comments, votes and support! Not much really, it's all free... so make it happen!

Just click the 'vote' link after you've checked out my awesomeness!!

Look out for more Remixes this month... expect surprises!

Episode 63: On your marks...

So I'm a casual runner... nothing more... nothing less. It's not that I couldn't be a serious runner, I just choose to be a casual runner. Once or twice a week if I'm having a particularly good running week. I'm not even that fast really. But I've been talked into entering this 10K race on Saturday 12th November... that's right, THIS Saturday. And I should be writing that MOvember! See it's all for a good cause apparently, although the fact that this so-called race is in Greenwich Park, the hilliest mofo in the south, makes me believe there are no true good causes... bustards! (http://london-greenwich.mo-running.com/)

Get set....

I'm trying to do a sub 60 minute time but the hills are horrific and let's face it, it's not really a race is it?! I mean, hundreds of people are in this thing judging by my race number (821 if you feel like coming to cheer me on at 10am) and I'm not into finding out my position cos it won't be first, second or third. If I find out it will be like the British Olympic Team next year....! So why call it a race? Why not just say let's all hurt ourselves from the inside for an hour and pretend that the 'medal' (again, it's not really a medal, is it?!) makes me a better person than everyone else that didn't take part?

But anyway, now that I've set the scene and hopefully made you think about how much of a better person I am than all of you, let's talk about how to redeem yourselves in the non-Nigerian church-in-an-industrial-estate kinda way.

I'm not running alone. In fact I'm running to keep others company. Primarily Makeba (Keebs to you lot as that is her online persona). James Yarde is in this ting too! That's right, we ain't joking. But I'm waaaaaay too lazy to do the whole sponsor me thing. I paid to run so that goes to charity anyway... Makeba on the other hand is doing this for a insanely excellent cause. Let me quote her Just Giving page....

Hi all!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I took up running in Autumn 2010 after feeling ashamed watching women three times my age and twice my size running in a half marathon near my house. I'm not quite ready for a half marathon yet but I am challenging myself to run this 10km (6.2 miles) for a great cause- Doctors of the World UK. I volunteer at one of their projects in East London, offering advocacy and clinical care for London's most vulnerable and marginalised people. I get to see first hand what a difference money donated to the charity can make.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now- I want to SMASH my £150 target- hopefully I will raise LOADS more!!

So far she is at £115 which to be frank with you guys is pretty lame! Not on her part, lame on everyone else. She's been training hard, consistently for a long time now and this needs to be acknowledged. So this is the bit where you guys get to step up! All I'm saying is, make this £150 thing happen yeah... it's not even a lot of money. She's only £45 away from the target. And it's maaaad easy to donate!

I say £5 each should do it. That's all... I know you're all good people and it's such a great opportunity to remind yourself just how good you are ;)

My folks are coming to cheer us on so I'm sure my dad will have his camera. If I'm grimacing in all the pics then you won't see one. If I manage to pull of a 'magnum', 'blue steel', or 'morning mist' pose then they'll be all over the next blog.

*flicks through Nike+ app*

Oh what's that? 51mins 27secs for your 10K practice run yesterday? Huh? That's only the 3rd 10K you've run ever? It's not a big deal really...

*inspects fingernails*

GO!!!!

Episode 62: Reveille

Can you hear that? Ok, then answer me this...

In a perfect world on a perfect day, not an isolated perfect day, but a perfect day in the middle of weeks of consecutive perfect days, what would your ideal time to wake up to start that day be?

Now, don't rush into that answer... think for a moment. A perfect day...

Consider what time you would have gone to sleep the night before, the night after at the end of a perfect day that is. How much sleep would you want, knowing that there is this perfect day just waiting for you at the other end but not knowing how much longer these perfect days will last for?

I got up maaaad early today, again. Now I personally am quite fond of sleep. It's a good friend of mine. But we're probably not best friends if I'm honest, but that's ok. We get on just fine. Today was too early realistically speaking, but the temptation to say "boooy, I'd have the longest lie in" isn't that tempting to me either? Is it just me?

I'm gonna go with 6am start after a midnight 'lights out'. That's pretty cool... no? I always feel like I have one over on the rest of you suckers when I'm up early. Sneakily get things done so that I can appear to be casually amazing, no big deal....

I then get to thinking what would fill up my perfect day?

Morning run? check
Sexy time? check
Sil Lim Tao? check
Make some music? check
Write? check
Watch something funny? check
Have an inspiring conversation? check
Go to work? check... no, really... but not for too long...
Teach someone something new to them? check

The list goes on, and just so you know it's really me typing, food would be the punctuation marks to all these activities... of course...

Soooo, what is your perfect time to wake up to make the most of your perfect day? What activities would be in there? Share...

You do realise that there will be no excuse for not implementing this from tomorrow though, right?! Goood...

Just a quickie...

Remember to press play...

... so I'm not entirely convinced of whether this email access only thing works how I like it to work so let's just say I'm reviewing it and will update you of how things will be soon. In the meantime I'll just leave it open for all to see... so behave yourselves, you hear!

In other news, to celebrate my 39th birthday I hereby invite all comers to a morning birthday run, yes run (that's the same as a jog (pronounced yog I think) Wendy Woooo) from my place to the O2 and back again along the river (about 8.5 miles)! How fun does that sound, eh!?!

So, who's in?

Episode 61 - The 39 Steps

So there I stood, half a pint of Fosters or Budweiser (not sure which) thrown over me, red imprint of my hand on the right side of her face staring back at me!! How the hell did I allow this b***h to get me so mad!?! And to think the night started off so promising...

... lemme start from the beginning... no, let me start from the middle.

Ok....

... that should be enough of an intriguing start to a purely fictitious story to make the eyebrows raise of all that received the email notification but couldn't be bothered to email me their email address and therefore receive privileges to belong to our exclusive little club! Their loss... in de face!

Now, how are you all doing? It's been so long... but now the time is right! I'll be mixing it up between written blogs and video blogs (the word 'vlogs' makes me cringe) for the time being, at the moment I'm feeling like written is the way to go. Let me know your thoughts. To make the written blogs slightly more multi-sensory I have decided to include some reading music. So, without further ado (?) press play on the embedded thingamajig and let's get these 39 Steps started!

So, as impossible as my beautiful face makes this seem, my... wait for it... 39th birthday is rapidly approaching! Yes, I know... I look good... it's no big deal, really. Of course a big part of it is down to genetics, but there is a significant amount of effort that you too can put into gaining results in the 'looking this good' department and you know what, it's your lucky day. Well, not today exactly, but some time soon I will share with you the secrets that will get you here. I know, sounds too good to be true but it IS true, unless of course you are a single female over the age of 28. For you there is a whole other blog that will help you to prosper, but for the rest of you, it's on. But I digress....

The purpose of THIS blog is not to brag about the fountain of youth I have found but is to ask for your help. I am in the process of putting together a program of activities, for want of a better description, things that I believe would really make 39 worth remembering. Things that if I don't intentionally set out to achieve, I may never get round to doing, things that I can tick off, not in a 'oh shit I'm almost 40!!! PANIC!' kinda way, because far from panicking, I'm looking forward to the time where I'm present during the 'how old are YOU then?' conversation that seems to happen a lot around me and I get to say, 'why would I lie?' as a part of my answer. (the truth is that happens now but you know, 40's way more impressive!)

So far things on my list are:

1. Go to Cadbury's Land or whatever it's called and eat fresh chocolate!

2. For every book that I am tempted to buy, read one that I already have but haven't read.

3. Cook for more people. Ok let's be specific, Soliheen (don't you hate it when people say 'pacific' when they mean 'specific') and set an actual target... um.... 20... no.... 10... ok 12. Cook for 12 new people. No wait... 10!

4. Consistently go to Wing Chun class. I suppose consistently means at least once per week? I dunno, funds are low right now but that shouldn't stop me....? Um... let's say 50 classes.... I think... (no one is holding me to any of these btw....)

5. Go to a new country. Well, the country doesn't hafta be new, that would really limit my options now, I just hafta be new to the country. Yeah that's doable.

Ok, all self indulgent, I know, these are just off the top of my head really and that's why I'm reaching out to steal... I mean, ask for your ideas. What should I do during my 39th year on this planet? Any recommendations? Nothing reckless of course although I know you all (think you) got jokes. Shall we say 39 things? Sounds good to me.

Now to put the record straight on a few things:

1. Spit n Move is most definitely gonna happen again. Don't know when but it's on the cards so watch this space.

2. I know I owe you the cooking blog where you gave me the ingredients, I have not forgotten, again it's on the cards now I'm messing with the new FCP.

3. I also realise that I owe you the edited version of this year's ice skating video, again, in the cutting room.

So let me know how you have all been? What's new? Catch me the hell up!

How do you feel about having to kinda log in to read/view the blog? I need this space to be a little secure for us all so let me know if it's not working right and I'll see what can be done. How do you feel about the idea of written babble? Prefer video babble? I'm more likely to be able to make written babble consistently regular with video babble intermittently sprinkled into the mix but let me know your thoughts.

Ok enough of this.... gimme your ideas for my 39th year. We only have 15 more days to decide!! And just in case you were wondering, food, money... these are the preferred gifts. Food is right up there though! Hook it up!
